What is CowTV?

CowTV is the original student television show, based in New Zealand's original student city, Dunedin. We are a studio based live to air television show that focuses on the lifestyle, behavior and issues of the students and residents of Otago's main center, but we also like to get out and about the town and region to scope what is going on and what will make you laugh.

Over the years CowTV has gained a fantastic reputation for our comical antics and fresh take on the issues surrounding the city and country. The “Walk of Shame” has been a stable part of the CowTV programme since day one. This involves presenters and camera people waking up early (or in many cases staying up the entire night) and catching unsuspecting students walking home after a night of passion and partying. Busting students at their most vulnerable is fun for both the crew and audience, especially when the pattoned “how did she rate?” or “what was the best position?” questions are posed.
Moral censorship aside, the Walk of Shame has brought CowTV to national attention a number of times, including articles on Holmes and Eating Media Lunch.

The crew also enjoys revealing the lighter side of student life. The Hyde st keg race, Undie500 and the Otago University orientation are all attended, recorded, and enjoyed by our awesome team of volunteers. Whether it's Fat Freddy's playing the toga party or riots on Castle st we will be there.

Another place you can find our crew is at the “House of Pain”. CowTV are proud supporters of Otago Rugby, and if you attend a home game at the mighty brook you will probably see us there being silly buggers. Since 1999, the show has seen many Otago stars come and go, (and sometimes come back again) but one thing remains the same, and that's CowTV filming you at Carisbrook.

CowTV is also a strong advocate for local and New Zealand music. From in studio performances from your high school band to interviews with New Zealand top musical acts; CowTV has probably covered it. Hundreds of musical groups have been broadcasted by the Cow studios, with some highlights being Kora, Fat Freddy's, Odessa, Katchafire, Shihad and to many more to mention in one page. Look out for our music section to view some selected clips from our favorite bands.

Never taking ourselves to seriously, CowTV has produced many more amazing and ridiculous moments. From John Campbell and Jason Gunn to the back of the Y boys and Micky Havoc, anyone and everyone has featured on CowTV. Not mention our presenters running for mayor of Dunedin and our resident super heroes Commonwealth Kea and Olympic Kiwi saving New Zealand every other week.

Overall, CowTV is a hot bed of up and coming talent and a great place to foster new and amazing ideas that wouldn't even be considered on other television shows. If you want to see New Zealand's most original, most spontaneous and most outrageous television show, you have come to the right place, because that show is CowTV.
